A Strong Wind Changes Direction
A curtain lifting at an open window. Leaves crossing a road. The stillness before a change of direction. Wind in a dream is an image of change and message, and the feeling of the air is part of the reading.
What It Means When You Dream of Wind
Wind usually points to change, message and the force that moves a person. It can picture a situation shifting, a word arriving from elsewhere or a pressure that cannot be seen but can be felt. Nothing in the image forecasts real weather or a disaster.
A strong wind can picture urgency or loss of control; a soft wind can picture a gentle change; a change of direction can picture a decision that alters the course. The question is what is being moved and whether you want to move with it.
The wind can also picture a rumor or a mood moving through a group, changing shape as it goes. The dream may ask what you have heard and whether to pass it on.
How the Meaning Changes
The wind's strength and direction decide the reading.
A strong wind
A strong wind can picture urgency, pressure or a situation that is moving faster than you can manage. The image can concern a change that requires shelter or a firmer footing.
A soft wind
A soft wind can picture a gentle change, a message or a relief after pressure. The scene can involve a shift that is easy to miss and easier to accept.
A change of direction
A change of direction can picture a decision that alters the course. The dream often holds a new influence, a different plan or a message that turns you around.
Making Sense of It for Yourself
Look at the wind's strength and where it came from. Then ask what is changing in waking life, and whether you are being moved or choosing to move. One useful step is to name one change that is already in the air, and to decide what shelter or support would make it easier.
The wind can also be an image of a message that arrives without a voice, and the dream may ask what you have heard but not yet answered.
If a strong wind appears in the dream, it can point to a force that changes the direction you thought you had chosen.
Religious and cultural readings
Islamic and Christian dream interpretation each have their own reading of this image.
